Early 20th Century Set of Nine Dried and Framed Marine Algae Herbarium Specimens
Date: 20th Century
PRICE: $ 2,500
Dimensions: H 21,5cm W 26,5cm D 1cm
Beautiful romantic example of collecting in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Wonderfully dried collection of nine algae or Seaweed specimens framed like a herbarium in lacquered wooden frames.
The condition of these specimens is very good, the algae beautifully faded into pinkish red and brown colors.
The frames and backing are all in place, I think the 'new' paper tape on the back is a mid-twentieth century restoration.
Flower and plant collecting was popular in the Victorian and Edwardian period especially botanical specimens from flowers to seaweed and algae specimens.
