Stunning Sarreguemines fruit plate and bowl set consisting of:
9 small plates; 4 apple, 2 strawberry and 3 grape plates.
a big strawberry plate
a big oval green apple plate
a fruit basket or bowl.
Made by the famous Sarreguemines pottery.
By the signature on the back of the platters these can be dated around 1920, the signature on the fruitbowl tells it is dated around 1950.
The Sarreguemines pottery was established in 1784 by brothers Nicholas-Henri and Paul-Augustin Jacobi and partner Joseph Fabry.
When Paul Utzschneider took over management at 1800 the business expanded.
The Sarreguemines factory produced most of the original tiles used during the construction of the Paris metro.
Majolica was added to its production in the 1860s.
At the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian War in 1874, Sarreguemines became German territory. In order to maintain the firm’s French nationality, two additional facilities were constructed in Digoin and Vitry-le-François (the added DV to the signature on the fruit bowl).
