Early 20th Century Posen Silver Basket Weave Teapot and Tea Caddy
Dimensions: H 12 cm W 17 cm D 10 cm
Very rare square German 800 silver tea caddy and teapot in a faux basket 'woven' surface.
The inside of the caddy has gilded or gold washed interior and the lid pulls off. The teapot has a hinged lid and a with mother-of-pearl rings separated handle.
Both of them are marked with several silver hallmarks on the bottom, see pictures. Both the Posen and the Koch&Bergfeld marks are clearly visible, including serial numbers.
The very decorative trompe l'oeil basketweave theme is inspired by Russian silversmiths who used this 'simulating a woven basket' theme end of the 19th century and early 20th century.
The little 'plaques' where probable used to have your family initials engraved in, this never happened so you could put your own initials on this decorative special set.
