19th Century Wooden Water Canteen
Date: 19th Century
Dimensions: H 12cm diameter 25cm
Rare water canteen, all chain and iron work is original. The drinking nozzle and filling opening are made out of copper. Wood canteens like this were made for taking water on your way. Funny detail on this one is that is has little wedges on which it can stand on it's own. In excellent condition considering it's age and that it is probably been used really often.
Soaking the canteen in water to swell the wood helped minimize any leaks.
This would be a wonderful addition to your antique bottle collection.
standing up this canteen measures 29 cm or 11.4 inch.
