Very decorative set of 4 antique green hand blown and glass bottles also known as Demijohn, Lady Jeanne, Dame Jeanne or Carboy.
Bottles like this were primarily used to hold liquids such as wine, cognac or brandy.
The metal baskets were to protect the glass during transport. The baskets make a full bottle also way easier to carry. Dried grass would be tucked between the bottle and the metal.
The large bottle probably holds 40L (no signs) this is approximately 10.6 US Gallons or 8.8 UK Gallons.
Sizes from big to small:
Two large ones: 64 cm high, 45 cm in diameter, 25,2" x 17.7"
Smaller one: 52 cm high, 37 cm in diameter, 20.5" x 14.6"
Smallest: 52 cm high, 31 cm in diameter, 20.5" x 12.2"
These old glass bottles are characterised by bubbles and slight imperfections, they show hand manufacturing and generations of using.
