A lovely 1930s Art Deco Czech Republic made malachite glass turtle trinket dish, by Curt Schlevogt designed by Mario Petrucci

Malachite glass is intended to look like malachite (a green copper carbonate mineral), or more generally, to look like marble. Today this glass is also often termed "slag glass".

Most of the moulds for Bohemian malachite glass were designed by (American born) Curt Schlevogt in the 1930's. At the 1934 spring fair in Leipzig, the company Schlevogt presented its collection of moulded glass under the trademark “Ingrid” by the Josef Riedl glassworks company in Polubný.

The most impressive moulded glass, from the artistic aspect were the result of the company’s collaboration with leading artists as were, for example, Ladislav Prenosil, Zdenek Juna, František Pazourek, Artur Pleva, M. Petrucci, E. Rottenberg and many others.

The successful development of the company was halted by the Second World War and the ultimate stroke came with its nationalisation in 1945.
