Very large French Majolica or Barbotine violet pansy vase
Unsigned but attributed to Delphin Massier.
Look the colours and the detailed painting. Its size and the way the leaves are formed are spectacular.
In 1860 the Massier’s began to produce their vibrantly coloured Majolica, perhaps inspired by the flowers of the Cote d’Azur. The Massier’s work represents a link between traditional Victorian Majolica and Art Nouveau pottery. They produced an incredible whole range of flowers like iris, roses, daisies, wild roses, orchids, pansies.
Early Massier works rarely bore a signature.
